It was John Holdren the senior advisor to President Obama on science and technology issues who first proposed in 2007 the term global climate disruption as opposed to climate change.
Doug Siterson made the point more recently, that when we talk about climate change it has the connotation of something positive. Technological change is seen as a positive however climate change is almost universally a negative.
Despite the best effort of Holdren and Siterson “Climate disruption” is still rarely referred to. Google Trends shows that Climate change now supercedes global warming as the term of choice. Global warming was too narrow a term in any case as it only referred to one factor of the broader spectrum of changes we are seeing around the world these days.
